Beas Kund Trek

Difficulty – 3/5
Duration – 3 days
Ideal Time – May to June, August to October

This is one of the short treks we offer in the neighbourhood of Manali but make no mistake as it offers more than you can even imagine. Trip Details

Day 1 – Solang to Bakar Thatch (3300m)
We drive from Vashisht to the start of the trek at Solang. It’s only a short drive of 20 minutes and then we get on the trail. We walk alongside the Beas River to start and steadily climb towards Dhundi. At Dhundi we leave the road behind and head into the unspoilt nature of the upper Solang Valley. We now pass through changing scenery as the altitude goes up and the vegetation thins out. Another short climb brings us up onto the ridge of Bakar Thatch. We stay here for the night with Hanuman Tibba (5900m) as an imposing backdrop to the camp.

Day 2 – Bakartach – Beas Kund – Bakartach | 5 hours | 11975 feet
Early morning we begin our trek after having breakfast witnessing the Snow capped Bhrigu range, Kothi village and a snaky world’s most glamorous highway traversing from Manali to Leh. We get a wonderful opportunity to examine our snow craft skills(if any) or get to learn a bit about treking in snow and/or moraine. As we leave the moraine behind we come onto the huge glacial plateau and find ourselves surrounded by high mountains and the glacier itself. We will take a detour via the glacier before heading up the final incline to reach the beautiful lake of Beas Kund. Surrounded by cliffs and with a heavy religious significance it’s hard not to be impressed by this stunning place. After sometime around the lake we will head back to our camp at Bakar Thatch.

Day 3 – Bakar Thatch to Solang (2600m)
We leave Bakar Thatch after a leisurely breakfast and head back down to Solang. We will take our time and enjoy the walking through plateaus filled with alpine flowers and abundant birdlife. It’s our last chance to get uninterrupted views back to Hanuman Tibba and the surrounding massif. It’s a view that will last in the mind as we return to Solang and then Vashisht.
